The above scenario described the conditions of many new mothers especially those of them who are just having their first baby ever. Many women worry about how long their new born baby should sleep. Some of them even go ahead to wake their babies for fear they might cross over to the world beyond while over sleeping. According to medical specification, new born babies have their time for taking proper sleep and nap. Below are the normal specifications:
- Newly born to 3 months old babies require 10 to 11 hours sleep at night, 4 to 5 hours sleep during the day with 4to 5 hours naps.
- Babies who are 4 to 5 months old require 10 to 12 hours sleep at night, 2 to 4 hours during the day and 3 to 4 hours nap in a day.
- Babies who are 6 to 8 months old require 11 to 12 hours sleep at night, 2 to 3 hours sleep during the day with 2 o 3 hours nap in a day.
- Babies who are 9 to 17months require 11-12 hours sleep at night, 2 to 3 hours sleep during the day and 1 to 2 hours nap in a day.
- Babies who are 18months to 3 years of age require 10 – 12 hours sleep at night, 1 to 2 hours nap during the day.
- Babies who are 3 to 5 years old require 10 – 11 hours of sleep at night, 1 hour nap or less during the day.
- Babies who are 5 years plus require 10 – 11 hours of sleep at night, 1 hour sleep or nap during the day.
- The above are just the normal specification for a baby’s sleep all through his or her infant stage. They are not rules per se, you simply need to make you’re your baby falls into the appropriate specifications depending on his or her age.
