What is Piles?
Piles are swollen and inflamed veins that develop in the anus and lower rectum. The ailment (best known as hemorrhoids) is common and can occur inside the rectum (internal hemorrhoids) or under the skin around the anus (external hemorrhoids).

Causes and Symptoms
You develop piles when the veins around your anus stretch too much due to pressure. Common causes of piles include straining during bowel movements or increased pressure on the veins during pregnancy. Piles can also develop from the following causes:

• Sitting for long periods of time on the toilet
• Chronic diarrhea or constipation
• Being overweight or obese
• Anal intercourse
• An inherited tendency to develop hemorrhoids
• Your age causes weakened tissues

The symptoms you experience with a case of piles are affected by the location of your hemorrhoids. Internal piles are inside the rectum and you usually cannot feel or see these kinds of hemorrhoids. External piles under the skin around the anus can become easily irritated. Common signs and symptoms of hemorrhoids may include blood on your toilet tissue or in the toilet bowl that does not come with pain. Itching or irritation in your anal region may occur. Other symptoms include pain or discomfort, swelling around the anus, a lump near the anus, and leakage of feces.

Piles Home Remedies
By the age of 50, it is estimated that around half of adults have already dealt with the itching, discomfort and bleeding that comes with a case of piles. To alleviate symptoms, you may want to consider some of the following home remedies for piles:

a) Turnip:
The leaves of turnip can come in pretty handy when treating piles. Extract the juice from the leaves to make a 150 mL dose that is given to a patient. For the best results, it is suggested to add 50mL of the juice to equal quantities of watercress, spinach, and carrot juices.

b) Ginger:
Taking a ½ teaspoon of fresh ginger juice mixed with one tablespoon of honey, and one teaspoon each of fresh lime juice and fresh mint juice, is said to help treat the symptoms of piles.

c) Warm Soak:
Soaking in a warm bath on a regular basis is beneficial for someone looking to fight the symptoms of piles. Use plain warm water and stay in the tub for 10 to 15 minutes. You should repeat this process for two to three times per day.

d) Daily Shower:
Since it is important to keep the anal region clean, a daily shower (or better yet, a bath) will effectively cleanse around the anus. Gently soak or wash in warm water. Make sure to gently dry the area – using a hair dryer is best to avoid irritating your skin.

e) Baby Wipes:
You must keep your anal region clean after going to the bathroom, but sometimes the dryness of toilet paper causes irritation. Use moist towelettes or baby wipes that do not contain perfume or alcohol.

f) Ice Pack:
Apply an ice pack or cold compress to your anus to relieve swelling associated with piles.

g) Onions:
To treat dry piles, apply a crushed onion (that has been skinned and roasted) to affected skin.

h) Sesame Seeds:
Some people have used sesame seeds to treat their piles. The remedy can be taken as a decoction by boiling 20 grams of the seeds in 500 milliliters of water until the liquid is reduced by one-third. Another way to prepare the seeds is to ground into a paste with water, which is associated with treating piles that bleed.

i) Pomegranate:
Add one cup of pomegranate peels to a pot of water, and bring to a boil. Allow the liquid to cool, and then drink a glass of the mixture in the morning and in the evening.

j) Dry Figs:
Clean three to four figs with hot water, and let them soak overnight. In the morning, eat the figs and drink the water that they were soaking in. to see the best results, it is suggested to repeat the process for at least three to four weeks. The figs contain tiny seeds that actually stimulate the peristaltic movement associated with the intestines. This causes a bowel movement that keeps the alimentary canal clean. The remedy helps alleviate pressure on the anal region and avoid a bout of constipation, which can worsen your hemorrhoids.

k) White Radish:
To treat some of the symptoms of piles, create and consume a mixture comprised of 100 mg of grated white radish and one teaspoon of honey. Some people have also drunk the juice of the white radish (60 to 90 mL doses) for two times per day. The home remedy is also effective in treating the pain and swelling of piles when used as an external solution – a paste of white radish mixed with milk. You may also grate five to six white radishes in a bowl to extract juice. Combine the radish juice with two teaspoons of honey, and stir the mixture well. Directly apply the remedy to exposed piles.
