Constipation is less, incomplete or infrequent evacuation of stools. A person may suffer from hard and excessive straining of bowel movements with difficulty or small and dry stools. The digestive system is disturbed leading to illness in the body. Mouth ulcers, headaches, pimples, dark circles, dizziness, foul breath are few symptoms of constipation.

- Inadequate intake of water
- Overeating
- Irregular meals
- Low fiber diet
- Too much intake of fried and refined food
- Suppressing stools when in pressure
- Unhealthy lifestyle
- To avoid constipation it is very important to maintain a good lifestyle. Healthy diet and regular exercise with adequate sleep will cure constipation.
- Increase your intake of water. Have at least 8 glasses of water daily. This will help in proper food digestion and you will not suffer from hard stool movements.
- Make sure you have your dinner at least 2-3 hours prior to your sleeping time. You need to give time for the food to get digested. A short walk after dinner is recommended as this will help in digestion.
- To cure constipation have ½ glass of cabbage juice twice a day.
- Mix lime juice in warm water and add a little salt to it. This is an effective way to cure constipation.
- One of the useful home remedies is by mixing half spinach juice and half carrot juice in equal amount and drink this in the night before going to bed.
- Have orange juice in the morning on empty stomach for one week to cure constipation.
- Add about 2 teaspoon of almond oil in milk and have this at night will relief you from constipation.
- Consuming 3-4 spoons of Castrol oil will also bring some relief from constipation.
- One easy and quick remedy is to add some fennel seeds in water. Now drink this water every night. Fennel seeds help in curing any digestive troubles and in a long run will ensure proper functioning of the digestive system.
- Having guava on empty stomach will also be fruitful.
- Having milk with dates (khajur) will also cure constipation.
- Having water that has been stored overnight in a copper vessel will give instant relief from constipation. Drink this water early morning on empty stomach. This is an excellent home remedy as your grand parents must have also experienced.
- Eat ripe bananas in between meals to cure constipation.
- Avoid too much of fried and refined food. Avoid overeating also.
- Have small and frequent meals during the day. Eat for about 5-6 times a day in small quantity to avoid constipation.
- Eat an apple daily or drink apple juice to relieve constipation.
- Include barely in your regular diet, barley is a very effective remedy for constipation.
- Mix some senna leaves powder with dry ginger in equal quantity. Add this to warm water and drink it every night, make sure the water is warm when you have it. This will help in regulating the bowel movements and will cure the problem of constipation.
