Handling new born baby


Before having a baby, partners need to prepare their mind set in order to provide a well organized environment for the new born as this would enable various necessary arrangements including making purchases for the baby among others.

Purchases to be made will include basic items such as baby diapers, blankets, feeding bottles and formula among others. Clinically, hygiene becomes the leading factor to be taken into account by the mothers and other people associated with the daily care of the new born.



There are various activities that really define the way baby should be handled and they include the following;
  • Supporting the head.
  • Dealing with soft spots such the head.
  • When thebaby is naked and how it is handled.
  • Dressing the baby.
  • Bathing the baby.
  • Feeding the baby.

1. Holding and supporting the baby’s head.

For new parents, holding a new born becomes scary thing to do because they do not know where the soft parts are and the correct place to hold the baby in order to balance the head with the body. Most often when the baby is born, the head is always heavier than the whole body and thus the head should always be supported for correct balance to occur. When waking up the baby take note however, not shake him at all but rather provide a very soft tickle on the baby’s leg or hand as this would ensure proper way of allowing quick and good response by the baby.

2. Feeding the baby

All the parents are often worried on how feeding of the will be done because highest hygiene must be adhered to because the new born still has a very responsive body system that will not tolerate even mild germs in the food. Now the baby’s major food include the formula and the mothers’ milk. Breast milk is the best and most preferred new born first food because it is very powerful and much responsive for the baby compared to bottle food given to the baby. Babies are often fed between two to three hours an interval that can mostly be observed especially when the mother’s milk is used. Mothers should ensure that babies are burped after every meal.

3. Changing the diapers.

Before hours elapse a new born would require change of diapers an activity that mother’s and persons who care for the babies must be able to know because this would much on the baby’s freshness and body fit that enable the baby to be happy thus minimizing the annoying baby cries. Practice makes perfect and thus those who are not fully experienced on changing and using diapers must not worry at all simply because with careful practice they will be able to learn how to do it easily.

When changing the diapers, place the baby on a soft spot such as bed or table after spreading out the diaper that is be used by the baby. This is completed by folding the front part of the diaper and using the straps attached to secure it so as to make firm and keep the baby’s waste in position until the next diaper is given to the baby. Ensure that diapers do not stay for long and hence care takers are advised to check in a frequent interval.

4. Dressing the baby

Dressing of the new born is another issue of major concern the parents would always want to dress the baby with the clothes of their choice. This is not advised because there are special for the new born that go well with their very tender skin that can develop irritation and allergies. Care should take while buying clothes because the ones include those without high neck clothes that will make it difficult to remove from the baby.

5. Bathing the baby

Knowledge on how to handle the baby while bathing is of great concern because when a parent is experienced then bathing the baby becomes the most enjoyable thing to do. This happens because of the baby’s tender skin that the parent would really want to get associated with. Between ten to fifteen days the baby is always given a sponge bath. After this, daily bath with warm water is done so as to rid of the baby of cloggy pores in the body. Also after bathing the baby, ensure the new born with a very cloth in order to provide the required warmth that will help in minimizing cases of  the child catching cold.

6. Holding the baby.

The new born must be held carefully held in order to ensure the baby’s head; neck and spine are balanced in order to ensure that the baby does not feel any at all. In the head there various spots that look like breathing and loose holes because of the movement they make that respond to the baby’s breath. However, care should be taken so as to avoid inflicting damage to this part of the head. Also, the parent would want to feel the baby’s body as they hold him and they are advised to smoothly pass their hands over the new born body.

7. New born integration.

The new could be required to get associated with the others members of the family and the society an event that could include travelling around to change the mother’s environment. Care should be taken when holding the baby because the kind of environment is not the same as the previous room surround that the baby did spend immediately birth. It is much healthier to ask the other members of the family to wash their hands well before holding the baby because various body deodorants tend to be allergic to the babies skin. 

Try as much as to keep all the materials that help in soothing the baby because this would minimize chances of being attached to the baby which might increase stress levels for the mothers.

Finally in cases where there is ambiguity, mothers are strictly recommended to seek baby care manuals that will provide various guides concerning adequate new born development.
